Katina Semien Smothers

KATINA SEMIEN SMOTHERS, ESQ. is a dedicated attorney, community advocate, strategic planner, capacity builder, and motivational speaker. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1997, and later obtained her Juris Doctorate from the Southern University Law Center in 2000.

With over 23 years of experience running a private law practice in Baton Rouge, Attorney Smothers has established herself as a trusted legal professional. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, where she oversees the day to day operations of the Caucus and provides strategic leadership, policy support and organizational management to members. Her leadership supports the Caucus’s work during legislative sessions and drives its mission of promoting equity, justice and
opportunity for all Louisianians.

Attorney Smothers previously held the role of Director of Community Programs within the Office of Programs and Planning under the 56th Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards. Her commitment to community development and advocacy has been reflected
throughout her career.

Mrs. Semien Smothers is married to Dr. Roderick L. Smothers, Sr., the former 14th President of Philander Smith College and the current Chief Operating Officer at Virginia
Union University.
