Katrina R. Jackson-Andrews

Katrina R. Jackson Andrews is a dedicated public servant who has spent over a decade representing communities in northeast Louisiana. First elected to the House and now serving in the State Senate, she brings a strong legal background and a clear passion for making a difference at home.

Background and Education

Katrina grew up in Monroe and stayed close to home for her education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-law and legal studies from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2000. She later went on to earn her law degree from Southern University Law Center in 2004, graduating in the top 14 percent of her class.

Professional Career

After law school, Katrina worked in private practice and later opened her own law firm in Monroe. She also served as a staff attorney for the Louisiana House Labor and Industrial Relations Committee, gaining firsthand experience with how laws are crafted and shaped at the state level.

Political Career

Katrina was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2011, representing District 16. After nearly a decade in the House, she was elected to the State Senate in 2019 to represent District 34. She was re-elected in 2023 without opposition.

Committee Roles and Leadership

In the Senate, Katrina serves on several key committees including Health and Welfare, Agriculture and Rural Development, Education, and Finance. She chairs the Senate Select Committee on Women and Children and serves as vice chair of the Education Committee. She is also active in the Democratic Caucus, Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, Women’s Caucus, Rural Caucus, and the North Louisiana Delegation.

Legislative Focus

Katrina’s work in the Legislature has focused on health care, education, economic opportunity, and women’s and children’s issues. She has taken strong positions on mental health support, workforce development, and reforming parts of the criminal justice system. Her earlier work also included legislation related to abortion clinic regulations that drew national attention.

Personal and Community Life

Katrina continues to live in Monroe where she remains closely connected to her community. She attends Riverside Missionary Baptist Church and frequently participates in civic events and speaking engagements, including graduation ceremonies at her alma mater, ULM. Her work reflects a deep commitment to the people and values of northeast Louisiana.
