C. Travis Johnson

C. Travis Johnson has been representing Louisiana’s 21st District in the State House since January 2020. He’s known for staying connected to the people he serves, combining political experience with a strong focus on local issues and rural development.

Background and Education

Originally from Ferriday, Travis attended Louisiana Tech University, where he earned a degree in economics and political science. He later received a master’s in public administration from Belhaven University, building a solid foundation for both public service and business leadership.

Professional Career

Before running for office, Travis worked as the regional political director for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu. He also served as vice chair of the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee. In addition to his political work, he has owned and operated a restaurant in Vidalia and launched a consulting firm that supports nonprofits and local governments with budgeting and grant writing.

Political Career

Travis was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2019 and took office in early 2020. He was re-elected in 2023 with a majority of the vote. He’s also a fellow with the Future Caucus Innovation Program, which supports legislators working on energy and environmental challenges.

In the House, Travis serves as vice chair of the Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development Committee. He also sits on committees covering natural resources, transportation, disaster recovery, and the state budget. He is vice chair of the Louisiana Rural Caucus and is active in both the Legislative Black Caucus and the Democratic Caucus.
